Breakfast at Tiffany's

After a lot of research on whether we wanted to start solids at 4 months or 6 months, and start with veggies or cereal, I ended up equally convinced that both were right and both were wrong.  We ended up doing exactly what our pediatrician recommended.  Cereal made with formula at 4 months.  We actually tried a little Friday night, but HP was tired and in the Bumbo, and it just wasn't working.

He acted very excited about it today.  He was bouncy in his high chair, and opened his mouth to reach for the spoon.  I think he was disappointed with what he got!  I am sure organic rice cereal made with formula taste something similar to cardboard.  It sure smelled like it.  He let me put the spoon in his mouth, but quickly spit the food out.  I'm not sure he's developed the swallowing reflex yet.  But, we had fun, he looked adorable, and we'll keep trying every few days until he likes it more.

The silver spoon and fork engraved with his initials were one of the many gifts from the wonderful partners at my firm.  I was due the same week as another attorney, and I am fairly certain the goal was to shower us with enough gifts to make sure we would feel terrible if we decided not to return to work.  The gift was super sweet, but let's hope that Mr. H never acts like he's had a silver spoon in his mouth.

Last big event of the weekend was a 3 mile walk/run with some girls from boot camp.  It was Hardin's first spin in his new jogging stroller... I found on Craigslist for 30 bucks!  We had a blast for the first 2.5 miles, but the last half mile I had to carry H, and one of the girls pushed the stroller.  I think he'd do better in the morning, but we didn't go until 4, and he can get a little grumpy in the afternoon.  It was by far the longest he's ever been in a stroller, so I was still happy with our first big trip.

Not sure Tiffany & Co. intended their silver to be a teething toy!

Total disappointment

I did NOT share in his excitement!

  1. You know I'm a sucker for a silver spoon. So glad you took pictures. That spoon can be a treasure for generations to come.

  2. You know I have to agree with the above "Mama", he liked that silver soon, just look at the difference in the smile on that face. Right after he learns to say Mama he will probably just come out with a Tiffany. Little Mr. H. has good taste!
